Help Identify This IHC

Posted by Nathan on November 13, 1999 at 20:08:39 from (206.155.128.232):

I found an old tractor. It has about 36-38" rear wheels with angle iron treads at 45 degree and about 12-14" wide. The front are about 16-18" and about 5-6" wide with smooth steel. It is a wide front. The engine is 4 cyl. It has a belt pulley on right side and some type of galvanized can or hopper on the left side. The steering wheel is heavy cast iron with IHC stamped in it. The letters are on top of one another design. And the steering wheel is on the right side of tractor and at the back. The rear fenders cover about half the rear wheels, solid on inside and part covering tread is flat but rounded as wheels. All the paint and letters or numbers are gone. It's in a shed, but the roof colapsed in '73 with snow. The valve cover is off engine and rain has been falling inside since '73. The old guy said he doesn't remember the model or why cover was off. He said it was driven under shed. He said it was one of the first tractors in the county. It's in pretty bad shape, but would make a nice yard ornament. He doesn't want to sell it, but might. It's been over a year since I looked at it, so some of the descriptions may be off a little. I'm familiar with JD's, but don't know much about IHC, especially old ones. Any help identifying and a value would be appreciated.
Thanks, Nathan

Today's Featured Article - Box Plow Blues - by Tom Schwarz. One of the first implements most tractor owners obtain is the box plow. For very little money, this piece of equipment promises to plow and flatten any hill or vale on your ranch road or farm. At least that's what I thought! As simple as a box plow appears, it can be rather challenging to make work correctly. In our sandy soils of Florida, traction is king. You can never have wide enough tires or heavy enough weights to get all the traction you want … unless you own a monster tractor. U ... [Read Article]
