Super C Oil Pressure...??

Posted by BobG in VA on September 13, 2004 at 18:05:01 from (64.12.117.22):

Picked up a 53 SC with Fast Hitch a couple of weeks ago. It looked to have set out for years but it ran with no smoke and the rear tires and all rims look good. Shifted in all gears OK. Once home, changed ALL the fluids (including radiator which looked like muddy river water) but that truely is another story....Changed the engine oil with Rotella 15/40. Cold, the pressure on the old gauge reads just to the left of the "i" in OIL. Pulled the ancient oil filter (IH by the way)and replaced it and now the cold pressure is just to the left of the "i" --getting better. Once hot it settles at the red/white mark at idle and about middle way thru the "O" at half throttle. I pulled the valve cover and was amazed to see NO SLUDGE and it looked great!. Started cold and after about 5 seconds drips of oil came from all rocker assembly at regular intervals. Ran it up and worked it till it was good and hot. Pulled the valve cover again and started it hot. Again after about 5 seconds oil started dripping off the rockers at regular intervals just as if it was cold. Tell me: Am I OK with oil pressure if I get this kind of oil to the top end??? I know I need to get a new gauge, but was just looking for some support here... all responses are appreciated. PS I have a 230 and bought this with another guy who has a 52 SC so we ain't no babes with these things but they both carry a lot more pressure than this one. BobG in VA
