Clearly I was not specific enough. I found the HP ratings on the Internet. 36 PTO HP. Did the IH 404 have a two stage clutch for the PTO? I was told that you can only tell if it is live PTO if you have an implement hooked up to place a load on the PTO as the shaft will often spin without PTO engaged and no implement attacked. I would assume I have a 3 pt hitch as it has a place for the toplink to hook to. Did the fast hitch have this as well? How can I distinguish? I found the serial number I think on a small metal plate. Makes it a 1962. Still looking on advice on anything specific to the IH 404 that I should take care of asap. I have ordered owners manual and shop manual and will do a complete fluid change next weekend.

I do believe I have some type of electrical issue as the tractor will run fine and then sputter and mis and then start to run fine again a few minutes later. Doesn't seem to matter whether engine is hot or cold. I will also clean carb, sediment bowl and fuel tank.
