Regarding the Covair generator... I have worked on cars/trucks/tractors as a hobby and for a living..I have been in the industry, working for the big 3 for going on the third decade. It has been my observation that Chevy's of that time period had rather low output gemnerators. It was not unusual to sit at a traffic light and see the generator light glowing green till you hit the gas and got some RPM's going. Mopars from about 1963/1964 and on used an alternator which had a much higher output. By the way, alternators came into existance because cabbies complained that in heavy traffic, idling along with thir lights on, and possibly with windshield wipers and heater fan blowing, the batteries would go dead. They needed something with more output at low RPM's, and that's a big reason for the development of the alternator. I guess all this hot air just leads to me suggesting that you use a more contemporary charging device. The old generators may be more work than they're worth. And besides, the new ones are cheap and plentiful. About your sheet metal problem..?? I don't know what to say.. buff
