My family has farmed in the Central Michigan area for 4 generations. In our area in the 40's you didn't go to the dealer and pick out the list of options that you wanted like people do today with cars. You were just lucky to get one. My grandpa had his name in at 5 IH dealers in our area. When he finally did get his M it came with a cultivator a plow and yes a set of fenders. My entire family owns around 20 H's and M's they all have fenders. We always kept them on as a safety precaution. If you have ever plowed with a Farmall you would appreciate the fenders as something to lean on after hours of your right tire in the furrow. I grew up on the fender of my dads Super MTA while he was either planting cultivating doing work with the loader pulling beans but unfortunately most of the time was picking rocks. I would have to say that most of the Farmalls that I see in our area have fenders. Most attachments went on fine if you have the spacer bushings between the fender and the axle housing. We also had the fender extensions to help save your knees.
