I have a IH 384 tractor with the BD 154 diesel motor. Apparently last weekend when we were out working on the tractor (changing the oil and other fluids) , someone closed the fuel supply valve under the gas tank. Today, when I cranked the tractor and let it run for a few minutes (10 minutes or so) it suddenly went dead. I tried to recrank it until the battery was just about discharged and then I discovered that the valve under the fuel tank had been shut off. I think that it completely run the fuel out of the engine. Now, when I reopened the fuel valve and tried to recrank it with the little of battery that I still have, I still can't get it cranked. While I have the battery charger on the battery, I am trying to decide what I should do. Should I use some starting fluid to try and get it to fire off, or should I just try to recrank it by letting the motor turn over when the battery is fully charged? Thanks for any help.
