Been there, tonight even.
While I'm not on a time schedule like you, except for the lawn getting tall. I was putting my C back together after putting a rear main in it. Went together nicely, adjusted clutch, etc. I was going to put on the fuel line, and it stripped out on the sediment bowl head. It started good, but must have been close to stripping before as I barely had a wrench on it. I only had the pan to put back on, then drive it out to wash the top of the engine. I was a bit POed. I then drove out to my brothers farm to see if he had any. Found one that I could get by with. I came back, and decided to have a cold one. I had put a new CO2 cylinder on the keg last night, but must of not tightened the line enough. No gas. No beer. Everything is going smoothly about now. I figure I should maybe put the oil pump in and the pan on before I monkey with the sediment bowl, given my good humor.
Here is where my bad fortune turned to good fortune. As I grab the pump off the bench, I notice that some of the gasket appears to be missing and the bottom plate warped slightly. So I unbolted the nearly finger loose bolts, and sure enough, most of the gasket is gone. Not only that, but the spring is busted in half. While it may delay the reassembly for a day or two, its going to save me some time later. After straightening the cover, I decided it was indeed a time for a cold one and lived with a can and sat and looked at my C.
