i have a 49 H with a not-so-good transmission. the tractor would pop out of 5th on occasion but i let it go for a bit as i do not work the tractor and it seems to do it only on bumpy ground. tonight i got it out for a ride and went to take off and the tractor became stuck into 2nd gear. i could not get it out for quite a while. the shifter didnt seem to want to find the gear. it finally got out and it went into 3rd and clunked really bad. i got it into neutral and went back home in 4th. i played around with it and got it working ok but there was a bad clunking only in 3rd. i took off the cover of the transmission and found that the middle gear of the bottom shaft has a bunch of teeth missing now. i also found a bit of wear in the shifter and slides. here are the questions....should i replace all of the shifting bars as well as the shifter itself? will that fix the 5th popping out of gear? Could the transmission cover be worn and need repalced? The gear at the bottom.....does the tractor have to be split to replace this? can i leave it but not use that gear? is 3rd the one people like to plow with on these h's? it is parade, show, plow-day type tractor. is the tractor junk now? as you can see i am really in need of help. thanks!!!!!

It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro
