Kevin, Its hard to tell by the picture, but here's a couple of clues. The spoke cutoffs would suggest that it was built somewhere between 1939 and 1945. Many of the war year tractors reverted back to steel wheels because of the rubber shortage. If it is a 1939 model, It should have a cut out slot in the deck directly beneath the seat. The 39's had a square seat frame and the slot allowed the frame to suspend below the top surface of the transmission cover. This tractors appears to have an aftermarket seat. They were adjustable according to the operators weight. The factory called them "Flo-ting" seats. If you see adjustment slots next to the spring, then that is what it is. Also the transmission cover will have the shift pattern embossed if it is a 39 or 40. A 39 and 40 will also have dzeus screws to hold the grill and hood in place. Later models had the J hooks on the hood. The 39's had the serial number welded on the right channel below the magneto or distributor. As CNKS mentioned that is not the original paint job. Even if stored inside, paint would have faded far beyond what this tractor indicates, and the decals shown here are for later models (1946-1952) Easrly models did not have the IH logo on the side of the hood. They also had Mccormick Deering in small letters above "Farmall" The later models (46 and up) had McCormick only, having dropped the "Deering". These clues are the more obvious, and while not actually [pinning down the exact year, it may eliminate some years. The best thing is to locate the serial number, or match a couple of casting dates which are also embossed in the castings. I hope between all of us that we were able to help somewhat.
