txblu: We all hope I'm right, I took my cue from the fact he said good compression, and the tractor runs well after starting. The very best thing he could do right now is go where there is a good starting 1066, 1086, etc. Then he can compare how fast it is cranking compared to his. Tractor starters tend to get slow over a long period of time, thus you don't realize how bad they are until you rebuild or hear one the same. My dad was a firm believer in farm visits, he said you learned all you own short comings and mistakes.
