The farm I am employed at just purchased a 1256 turbo (nice condition w/6500 hrs.) It was purchased from an estate. It sat for two years without running. After draining the fuel tank, changing the fuel filters, oil & filters, it was time to use it. We hauled two loads of manure a mile away and it ran great! Next task was to grind a load of shelled corn, 2/3 of the way into the load it began to loose power drastically. I was able to stop the grinder before plugging it and before snuffing out the tractor, but then it would barely idle and had just enough power to move itself to the shed. 1/2 hour later it started right up, slowly increased rpms to 3/4 throttle and again it seemed to be starved for fuel. I consulted a friend (worked at a diesel injection shop for 8 years) he said it sounded like there was a return line problem or a check ball in the return line was stuck. I took all lines apart at the tee in the top of the pump. I blew them out with no blockages or dirt, etc. Before I put them back together I ran it. It ran great! After two days of moderate work this afternoon it was starved again. I took the lines apart again but it would still only barely idle after just 20-30 seconds. Then I took out the check ball between the pump and the tee. It looked fine and the glass ball moved freely. before putting it back toegther, It ran great. I put it back together and again it ran poorly. This time I removed the check ball and put the tee directly into the pump. It ran great again for my last load of the day. My question is: can I run this without the check ball? For a short period of time or a long time? My friend is gone for the weekend and I still have work that I would like to do with it. I read this board a lot and I know there is a lot of experience between everyone on here. Soon I hope to put pictures of it here. Thanks In Advance!!!!
