C Steering Question

On my Farmall C, when I turn the steering wheel and watch where the steering worm shaft enters the housing I notice movement of the shaft in and out depending on which way you turn the steering wheel.(no side play)
I have looked at the Parts Manual and a Shop Manual trying to determine what would tighten up the “end play” of this shaft.
Since I have never had it apart and won’t be able to taking it apart soon, I was wondering if any of you guys or gals that have had one apart could tell me what the problem is.
Looking at the diagrams in the books, there is a nut on the opposite end of the shaft that looks like it holds the bearing on the shaft and then there is a bearing retainer that screws in to hold the bearing in the housing
The end play is a total of maybe 1/8 inch but judging how quickly I see the movement start, I think if I could adjust this out, the steering would be pretty tight.
I have just replaced the U joints and that made a huge difference.
I'd appreciate any advice from you guys/gals that have had one apart.
