400 LPG Head Gasket

Was finally able to get to the 400 Farmall after getting my SMTA finished up. I blew a head gasket on the 400 last summer working hay. This 400 had been converted from LPG to gas long before we purchased it in 92. It always ran real good, had a tendancy to ping and would diesel after a good hard run in the summer. I was amazed that when I blew the head gasket and I ran a compression test, that it only had around 100 lbs./cylinder. I had heard that the LPG heads were higher compression but it still ran good, just had a strange noise under load. When I got the head off, I found that it had 2 head gaskets and a small burned spot leading to a head bolt. Which by the way, the head nut was charred and small pieces of burned gasket were under the hood, this led to my suspision that it was a head gasket. Were the two head gaskets put on to lower the compression ratio? I guess what I'm wondering about, should I replace the head gasket with 2 again or chance putting only one on and having it ping even worse and diesel more on shut down? I suppopsed I could replace the head with a gas burner head but this head looks great and I never had any problems with oil burning or engine miss. What do you all think? Thanks! Ernie Bob
