Dave, It sounds to me that your impulse is functioning properly...If your motor is still running at low RPM's, then your impulse should still be tripping. The impulse will stop working when the tractor gets above approximately 200 RPM's. Are you able to get your tractor to idle up at all. If it will idle up, have you checked the spark on the old magneto? Sounds like it may be a weak spark possibly? The impulse on my M, with an H4 mag will trip when I idle my tractor down very low. I kinda like it when you can watch the fan blade go around and hear that impulse going click, click, click...Anyway, good that you have a spare mag and http://www.magneeders.com is a good source for information.
