3pt backhoe for an H

I'm in need of a light-duty backhoe for digging trenches for downspout leads, AC conduit and drainage pipes. The depths will be between two and five feet in rocky Connecticut soil. In the interest of keeping down the number of machines I need to maintain, I was thinking of a backhoe for my 47 H. I asked here about one I'd seen local for sale on a '41 H. The consensus seemed to be - older backhoe repairs/maintenance expenses pile up quickly, so I backed away from that deal. Now, if I get a 3pt backhoe and either a PTO or crankshaft/chain hyd pump, I'm thinking this route will offer: more choices, more modern equipment with less maintenance needs and better chance of resale after I'm done with it. Am I correct with this thinking? Who out there has a setup like this and are you happy with it? I also don't know relative speeds of one of these compared with one of those dedicated small trackhoes.
