Steering systems can get kind of confusing on those vintage IH. But I will tell you what I am know. [or what I think I know] There was a tie rod cyl. used on some of the 560 and 660, but I don't think it was ever used on the 460. The 460U did use a hydraulic assist power steering unit. The way it works is a hyd. cyl was built into the steering box using a rack and gear to reduce the amount of effort used to turn the wheel. Otherwise its essentially the same as the manual steering. I don't know of any way to retrofit the manual steering with power steering on those models short of finding one in salvage yard. The farmall models did use a true power steering unit with a steering colunm pump and cylinders. I don't know if anyone has ever found a way to use the farmall system on a Utility. Hmmm something to think about.
