Never been around an MD, but if those engines are anything like the bigger 650D gas-start deisels, those two electrical terminals on the intake manifold are a switch that supplies voltage to your coil when it's in the gas mode. When you switch over to diesel a linkage inside the manifold opens the switch, cutting power to the coil. You can test it with an ohmmeter- when the levers are in gas position it should have continuity(sp?) and when in deisel it should be open.
On a side note, the 650D I bought two weeks ago was stuck also, and an old tractor mechanic told me to take the starter off and pry the engine backwards(opposite normal rotation) with a crowbar to unstick it. Along with spraying some PB-Blaster in the cylinders, by doing this I had it unstuck and running the same day I brought it home(your results may vary!). Good luck!
