Well, if it has an alternator, it's not an original. It would have come from the factory with a generator and a cutout relay, 6 volts, positive ground. To test the original system, ground the "F" terminal of the generator with the engine running at about half speed. If it starts to charge, the generator is good, look at the cutout or elsewhere for the problem. If it doesn't charge, good chance the generator needs work. The service manual will have a wiring diagram.
