Original rainbow tach broke around 5500 hours a few years ago, ran it like that for a while, then put a new replacement black one in, didn't truly install it for a couple more years. I love, absolutly love the 826 and other tractors with the German diesel. I just think they're cool. Yeah, cold blooded SOB's, but because of it we winterize our 826 (here in Wisconsin), park it in the back of the shed, and use one of four other tractors (two 856's, a 3588 and 3788 2+2). One 856 has a water/block heater, so plug it in for a few hours and it takes off like summer. The other 856 was bought new on our farm (one owner tractor), still has IH muffler, 13,000 hours, best of our tractors; will start if not by itself a tiny squirt of either. If the temps are in the teens one or two squirts of either will get it rumbling. Twenties takes one squirt. Thirties...if the night was cold maybe a squirt. I'd like to farm when I'm older and on my own, and will only use IH's if I manage a big farm, but if I have a smaller farm I'd like my Super M, an 826, and an 856. That's all I need in life. Anyway, after telling you my life's story, our 826 has been an extremely reliable tractor, even though it was bought used with around 2,000 hours. With as little hours as your tractor has, there should be very few problems. Number one thing I've noticed with every tractor I've been raised with (7-12 tractors) was it's tendency to give you grief and it's relation to its last owner. If the machine was even mildly cared for, it will treat you great. If it was worked and only maintained to keep it running, then things tend to tire easily. Our 856 with 13,000 hours is 300 times better than our auction bought 856 with 9,000 hours. Hey, have fun with the 826.
