John: It just hit me, one what happened to my tractor. Your starter drive is probably toast. Your starter probably stayed engaged while you were moving tractor. That is precicely what happened with mine and it destroyed the starter drive. I shouldn't have forgotten that one as it ruined the armature as well. I went off to the starter rebuilders, he repaired on the spot, back to field, installed starter, no go. I said to operator hit that starter buttom again. Sure enough starter was turning backwards. Back to the rebuilders, DT466 in trucks uses same starter, on the other side of ring gear. He had never asked and I had never said TRACTOR. Same starter, different armature.
