Please be sure to check and recheck that the tractor is not in gear before you hand crank start it. It will run you over in a heartbeat if it is in gear and starts. Yikes!!!!!Tractors do not know you are made of flesh and blood! My Dad's 1942 H has alway been a hand cranker. I have hand cranked it for 25 years. Only once did I blast myself in the side of the head. Tractor started very quickly and handle came up and pounded me in the side of the head above my left ear. I have a big scar and respect for powered cast iron. Be careful. Only crank the handle up to start in quick one-cylinder-at-a-time turns. I also start the tractor at the lowest RPM I can get. Never advance the speed control to medium or high until the tractor is running and you are on it or beside it.
Have fun! Cranking them is a great feeling. Be careful!!! Scott
