Jim, If you are talking about up and down play in the shaft, then the bearing at that end of the shaft with the play is the problem. There should be no up and down play. Normally the front bearing on the slider shaft is the one that goes out. I just replaced mine and when I threw the old one in the box one of the rollers fell out. If you are talking about back and forth play in the shaft, then you need some shims. The more back and forth play there is, the quicker bearings will wear out, although 1/16" or so of play is okay just so know the shaft is free and not binding. Good luck, Fred KS
