Posted by Bill Perry on June 13, 2003 at 20:30:15 from (195.93.50.14):

I just acquired a semi basket case 1940 M serial number 78-- and plan to go the distance on restoring this tractor. I have started by purchasing the Farmall M photo directory and noticed several items at the start that I wasn't familiar with. Two examples of front tires are shown, one with a single rib and smooth surface and what appears to be a 5 rib tire similiar to an implement tire. The rear tires are the connected bar 45 degree type. The decal is the McCormick Deering Farmall type with the IH missing, this fits with the previous information I was aware of. The tractor has several field modifications such as the newer style seat adapted by using a large 1/2inch plate that the seat is mounted to. I plan to use the 5 rib front tire and the unconnected 45 degree rear tires if I can find them. Some of the Dizus connectors on the hood are intact and others are replaced by bolts and nuts. If you are an expert on these older M's please give me the benefit of your experience and let me know what you have already been thru that could help me. I want to get this baby done in a reasonable amount of time and show it to my dad hooked to the three bottom disc type breaking plow still sitting on the farm.
Want to hear from you, Bill Perry.
