Oil seal on rear side of rear main bearing

Can any one tell me what thickness the seal is in betrween the rear crank bearing and the retaining washer and what dia. If rubber can be used , AND, on the rear plate covering the Rear main bearing, what (if anything) went into the groove that has a paper gasket over it. why there is a gap on the inner flange of the groove around 1/2in wide, and in what diection this gap points to when putting back the plate
