Diana: 193 sounds right, those tractors were definately Continentai engines. What precicely does your operators manual say on front cover. Some of those manuals cover more than one tractor. If you go to a CaseIH dealer, just tell them you have a 350 with the Continental diesel, they can help you with all the filters. That was the diesel engine used when the tractor was new. This 350 diesel was one of the few times IH didn't use it's own engine. One other item you may run into is when that engine rebuilder restored the engine they may have done some upgrades on filters, I'm thinking in particular the fuel filters. That tractor probably didn't have spin on filters when new. If it has now just make a note of those numbers.

I have owned 16 IH tractors in my lifetime most of them bought new. I never had a 350, but did have a 300 FarmaLL gas. You say the tractor may cost more than expected. What do you suspect is wrong. You really didn't zero in on anything in particular other than you seemed to be curling up your nose at the Continental diesel. I must admit it wouldn't have been my first choise. Those 300 and 350 really only ever had few faults. The utilities had steering box problems. The PTO and TA were pioneer items at that time. Prior to these tractors farmers were used to adjustments that if close it worked These items must be kept adjusted to the letter and by the book. TA should be shifted quickly and never allowed to free wheel in low. Adhere to this and TA will serve you well. The PTO is much the same keep it adjusted.

One item you do need is a IT service manual. Also let me know what the operators manual says.

Today's Featured Article - Fasteners: The Nuts and Bolts of Nuts and Bolts - by Curtis Von Fange. The nuts and bolts of nuts and bolts is an interesting and essential piece of knowledge that applies to our older tractors. An improperly torqued capscrew on an engine head or a shear bolt that is too hard on the driving shaft of a bushog can create havoc and make an expensive and uncalled for repair. Let’s examine the purpose and design of these fasteners in order to ensure their proper use. Fasteners are probably one of the aspects of mechanics that is given the least amount of thought. ...
