I'd take a look at the photos in the picture gallery of other 230's for familiarity. Check major castings for weld repairs or cracks, weak point on engine is water jacket cracks behind the carb anywhere from front to back on the block (if somebody left water in it one winter). Try the hydraulics on the hitch, check oil pressure, PTO, all gears for chipped teeth, ... standard stuff. $1200 for a decent 230 is not bad at all. Stan(VA). uh, second thought that's highway robery! I'd just forget it. Tell the guy to keep it, and it aint worth 10% of that! BTW, where did you say it was again? (just curious) ;) ;) ;)
