The arms are a supposed to be at a fixed distance apart. To attach a three point implement, you put the adapters on the implement first. Then there are a couple of different ways to attach the arms to the fast hitch.

One way I have read about is to support the adapters coming from the implement on a cement block and a 2x4 so the adapters are parallel to the ground and then you just back in to them like you would a regular fast hitch implement.

Seeing how I never seem to have a cement block AND a 2x4 around when connecting to my 3pt stuff, I just back the tractor in front of the implement with the fast hitch all the way up until I'm close enough to the implement to put the adapters (angled up) on the edges of the fast hitch sockets. Then I lower the fast hitch and the adapters slip in to the sockets, then I back the tractor up a bit and lock the adapters in to place.
