The IH dealers can get the nos rings if they are worth a hoot. I worked at one for the last couple years and restored a few old farmalls there and never had a problem getting factory replacement engine parts for Letter series tractors. I moved recently but if you want to try that dealer It was chambersburg farm service in chambersburg pennsylvania. They are really busy most of the time but are great in the customer service department. I live in john deere country now in texas and am totaly fed up with the IH dealer here. They won't stock hytran and oil filters for my super c. I told them how rediculous that was and that I would be ordering everything I need from the one I worked at in pennslyvania from now on since they wanted me to pay extra for shipping and overnight charges here. If I was gonna have to do all that why not do it from a place I know will have everything in stock.
Oh when you replace your rings make sure the side clearance is ok. IH has service ring sets that are thicker for pistons whose grooves are oversized. If you have firecrator pistons they are probably too worn out for the service rings but if you have the Iron pistons then they would probably work for you. Don't put standard rings in too wide grooves or they will break as soon as you start it up. I had to replace my firecrator pistons at its overhaul. The grooves were wide enough to put two rings in there. They went 50 years though so I ain't complaining.
