That question has been debated in our township for the last 60 yrs or so. In fact I walked into the fertilizer and seed distributor a day or so ago and a couple of coffee geezers were still trying to make their respective points. Our township is typically 6 miles by 6 miles square, and depending on where you live in the township would determine if you were a IH man or a JD man. Our farm was sort of in the middle, so maybe thats why we were a "cross over" farm. We had both IH and JD. My Grandfather had one of the first Farmall A's in the state. My Dad would have had an H, but during the war, he couldnt find on on rubber, so ended up with a JD BW. a great tractor for cultivating, with the rocker arm hydraulics, and even better for pulling beans. There was never any debate as to who had the most power in our area, as we had a 1936 Caterpillar RD-4 that out plowed everything in our area and that included the JD R's and the IH WD-9's. It wasnt until 1960 when the JD 4010's and the IH 706's appeared that we ceded the power debate. As to the H-vs-B debate, I have an H so have operated both to a great extent thru the years, and can see advantages to both models. I personally prefer the H for no particular reason, because if I could find the old BW, I would buy it in a heartbeat. So the debate continues, and hopefully our grandkids will carry it on. Aint it fun...............?

Today's Featured Article - Choosin, Mounting and Using a Bush Hog Type Mower - by Francis Robinson. Looking around at my new neighbors, most of whom are city raised and have recently acquired their first mini-farms of five to fifteen acres and also from reading questions ask at various discussion sites on the web it is frighteningly apparent that a great many guys (and a few gals) are learning by trial and error and mostly error how to use a very dangerous piece of farm equipment. It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro ... [Read Article]
