Kev - Presuming your wiring is correct and the alternator is good, the likely problem is the alternator is spinning too slow. A couple tests you can try: 1 - With the motor running at WOT, momentarily jumper the BAT and #1 terminals at the alternator. If the alternator begins charging and continues to charge after the jumper is removed, the alternator is spinning too slow. Need to install a smaller pulley on the alternator. 2 - Find the test opening in the rear of the alternator (approx 3/8" dia hole with a small metal tab visible inside). Again with the motor running at WOT, take a small screwdriver and touch the tip to the metal tab. Then with the screwdriver still touching the tab, ground the screwdriver shank against the side of the hole. If it charges when the tab is grounded, it means the internal regulator is bad. If it does not charge, there's a problem somewhere else in the alternator. Note: If the alternator is working correctly you should read between about 13.8 and 14.5 volts at the battery (actual voltages depends on the temperature and the state of the battery).
