Greg: Any 4 wheel wagon the length you set the wheel base will have more to do with how heavy you build the platform than any other factor. Knowing that your planning to use this behind a SA probably indicates you will go with a 9' or 10' wheel base and build the platform 12' to 14' long. The next factor to consider is getting the deck 2" above your tires, and yet not get it higher than necessary. I would use 3x6 or 3x8 main joists 2 of them length of platform. Only fasten to wagon frame at one end. For cross members on top of these I would use 2x4 or 2x6 depending on which you need to give clearence over tires. If you use 2x6 probably 30" centers, 2x4 probably 18" centers. You will have to space wider over tires with 2x4 and I would use a double 2x4 on either side of tires. Which ever way you go on this adjust your spacings accordingly so you come as near as you can to tires. Get your main joists on and bolted up at one end then lay your cross members out and work around wheels. Just good judgement. For fastening those together I would use 1/4x2x2 angle iron uprights about 10" long and bolt up with 5/16 bolt through the wood and angle iron. For a deck I would try and find rough lumber sawed about 1-1/4" thick. From there you could use your imagination. Iron flat bar for steak pockets for just steaks or a side board.
