I'm looking at a '52 Cub to buy. Very nice 10 year old resto. However, one thing I'm not sure about. The transmission makes a somewhat loud whinning noise in 1st gear and Reverse. 2nd gear has only slight whinning, 3rd gear is almost totally quiet. The owner in known to me as being a very honest individual and his uncle owned this tractor since new and now he has owned it for the past 17 years. He says the tranny has made this noise ever since he can remember it (and he's 67 years young). I've never owned an IH before. 35 years of owning various A.C.'s and I've had my model B for 25 years and it's tranny has always made similar noises, only being louder in 3rd gear. Do you guys think the Cub noise is bad news ? How much / how loud, etc. is acceptable for one of these machines ? Thanks in advance - Ron
