I'm not familiar with the 682 or any other Cub Cadets for that matter, but I'll do my best to help here. From the other posts it sounds like you have a RELAY for the starter, NOT A SOLENIOD (there is a big difference). From the positive battery terminal (assuming your mower is negative ground), you should have a cable running to one of the heavy terminals on the side of the relay. There will be another heavy terminal on the other side of the relay which has a cable running to the starter. There should be one or two small terminals coming off the top of the relay. One of these is the switch terminal, it is energized by the key switch or starter button when you start the engine and it energizes the relay to let power flow from the battery through the relay and to the starter. Check to see if there is battery voltage to the relay switch terminal (a voltmeter is great for this) when you try to start the engine. If there is, the cause of your trouble could be a bad relay, bad grounding of the relay, or a bad battery cable/connections. If you are not getting battery voltage to the relay switch terminal, the problem could be keyswitch/pushbutton, bad wiring/connections, bad battery cables/connections. Also, relays should "click" when they are energized. If you can't hear a click, start looking into the things I mentioned.
