Suggestions that I abide by
Have everything super clean
Get organized, have the tools and sequence of assembly worked out. Charge the battery
Know your torque requirements
Have some Plastigauge on hand to verify clearances
All items being reused go back where they came from and in the same orientation
Liberally lubricate the new bearings
Install the main bearings first, watch orientation
Verify fit with the Plastigauge on each bearing
Install the rod bearings, observe orientation, verifying each ones clearance with the Plastigauge
Verify that all bolts are torqued to spec. use at least two tighenings to get to spec. first tighten to about 80% of torque, then torque to 100%
Check for rotation of the assembled crank by manually rotating the engine. It is more time consuming but I usually rotate the engine by hand after each rod and main bearing is installed. If there is a problem I then know where it is.
Assemble the rest of the engine, add oil and new filter, coolant and connect the charged battery
Remove the coil wire from the distributor
Crank the engine until oil pressure registers on the gauge
Reinstall the coil wire
Start the engine and run at twice idle speed, watch the oil and temp gauges. If all is O. K. after ten minutes congratulate yourself and start cleaning the tools.
Repost if I have been unclear with this response.
Good luck and post your results.
