dr dave, I've cut literally 100's of acres with a 990. They are a good hay mower. Made in the early 70's. The 1190 replaced them. I had heard that they aren't as good as the 990. $700 is not out of line, if it has been taken care of. Look for wear in the drive belt area (belt idlers, idler pivots, and sickle drive. You'll replace the sickle drive pin once in awhile, along with the sickle drive head. There are 2 pivot points for the conditioning rolls, one on each side, look at them closely for wear. If it has been used much, they will be worn. This will require some machine shop work, but after they are repaired, will last along time. Good Luck.
