James: It should be marked on the cylinder side of coil. Quite often it is very faint and also will be right under the strap the holds coil in place. How I found out on this one, is a number of years ago an auto electric shop, sold me all the items I needed for a 12 volt alternator change over on my Farmall 130. These included the alternator, 12 volt coil, a smaller than usual pulley to speed up Delco alternator and a diagram on how to hook it up. Last year the old wiring harness caused me some problems, and in the process I consulted the YT forums for some advice. Without the fact I had a 12 volt coil being discussed I was advised to install a ballast resistor. This past winter in colder weather tractor would turn over just fine but would not fire up on starter. If I turned to the hand crank, one flip of crank and it was going. Since the ballast resistor is designed to cut power I naturally assumed if it cut 6 volt coil output it was doing same on 12 volt coil thus drain from starter had to be robbing ignition. I removed the ballast resistor and starting problem was over. The tractor is starting great since, even at some very cold temps. If you go to the left of your screen, under reasearch and info, you see articles, click on articles, look for Bob M's article on wiring diagrams, as it applies to 12 volt change overs on old IH tractors. Read it carefully he does discuss the coil ballast resistor trade off . Bob is also very helpful if you have questions.
