Bryce - This is fairly common to the older Farmalls. Cause is a "hot spot" in the combustion chamber (piece of carbon, hot spark plug tip, etc) causing the fuel air mixture to ignite after the ignition is turned off. The poor antiknock quality of the lousy regular gas being sold today doesn't help either. Contrary to other's claims running on after the ignition switch is turned off is NOT affected by ignition timing. One you hit the switch there is no spark, hence no spark timing. So monkeying with the timing will solve the problem. Things that will help: Idle the motor a minute or two before pushing the switch. Set the idle speed as low as possible, and make sure the throttle lever is fully closed before hitting the switch. Sometimes changing to cooler plugs will help. And the most reliable: Put the transmission in road gear and let the clutch out lightly as you hit the switch - the motor will stop EVERY time!
