Using the advise Bob M has given you, I have a wire for this running to a starter type push button on dash. Important to have push button as you don't want to forget and leave connected. every time I start the tractor I just give it a quick push. Excites alternator everytime and keeps the battery in top shape. Before I had this, sometime alternator would start to charge and other time not. It always worked after battery was down in charge too far. One problem I have noticed with these old tractors with using alternator and the original ampmeter to indicate charge, if battery is in top shape it takes less than a minute charging to replace what you have used in starting. If you miss that a few times, battery is down before you know it. I find when I push the button I always look at gauge to see what it did. Just great for keeping on top of battery charge.
