you need some play because the shaft in the front bolster must move in and out to direct the hyd pressure. the spline at that u joint could be bad. if the ball marm on that spline shaft is bad it could give you to much play if all is tight including that spline than you can move the rack inside the bolster closer to the bolster shaft the sleve the rack is in is ecentric, but if you did not have it out it could be hard to turn.
