Richard, I'd surely investigate the starter before I went to all the expense and trouble of a conversion. Reason I say that is my experience of about 3 weeks ago. My H had sat for 3-4 months in the cold barn with no use - just clicked when I hit the button. (I know, shame on me. My other two tractors have snow plows, the H doesn't). Have a good battery and good cables, like you. Anyway, I pulled it and found it would barely turn by hand - it was frozen by condensation is my guess. Pulled the armature shaft, cleaned the brushes with contact cleaner, greased the shaft at top and bottom and where the Bendix gear slides. It went from needing about 60 amps at 12 volts to barely turn over once to only 5 amps of current at 6 volts turning it at a slow but steady pace. Put it back in and it turns the engine like a charm. Total cost was about 50 cents worth of grease and contact cleaner. I get a kick out of cheap little home brew fixes like that. Maybe it'll work for you. If not, you surely haven't invested much in the venture. Steve

It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro
