It is a simple task to pull the valve cover back off. Pistons # 1 and 4 come up the same time, one of them on compression, the other on exhaust, the same on pistons # 2 and 3. Turn the motor over slowly, preferably with a crank. As # 4 piston comes to the top on exhaust, the exhaust valve will be open. At EXACT top dead center, the exhaust and intake will be "on the rock" ie: one will be closing, the other will be opening. Make certain that your distributor rotor is pointed at # 1 plug wire, continue around through the firing order. Remember, watch for movement on the OPPOSITE cylinder from the one that is on compression stroke.
