I remember having a 300 and 450 with ta When the Ta goes out it is the rollers that prevent the TA from going backwards when in TA. These rollers are spring loaded and could get gummed up and prevent the springs from forcing the rollers down the cam and then cause the rollers to slip and once they slip a flat spot developes on the rollers and then it just keeps getting worse. Also the needle bearings in the plenetary may have a hard time being lubricated with that heavy an oil. Even if you do not use the TA , you are using it every time you engage the clutch via an external linkage Other wise you can not shift the tractor remember the TA unit is designed to not run backwards and it binds up if the TA is not put into low range .
