Rich is right. If your alternator has the little two wire plug on it start unplugging this when the tractor is not in use. If the battery stays up, the diode or a different ignition switch (one with an accessory terminal to wire to the smaller wire in the two wire plug) is the fix. The excitation voltage is going to the alternator all the time the way it is wire now and that is slooowly draining the battery.
