I thought this was good enough to inflict on the family, so I sent it around to the brothers, cousins, etc. and asked for reactions. Most were along the same lines as those already posted, but had one very interesting response from my cousin's wife; they live in the DC area:

'Well, I think it's perfectly clear: Don't go down here unless you have a driveway on this street to turn around in. Sheesh. You Ohio boys need so much care and attention.'

And she had a follow up:

'It is a Southern thing....a polite way of saying: "Now, don't go down this road, y'all!"
At first I thought it was a DC road sign, but I reconsidered when I did not see, "OR ELSE!"'

After 30+ years of dealing with us "Ohio boys" (dense, simple-minded types who need to get out more), I guess she's resigned to explaining such simple stuff in words of one syllable. And here I had thought I'd come across something funny, instead of just another way to display my ignorance and lack of intellect. Par for the course, I guess!
