F-14 and Sam are correct. There was diesel M's, but I am pretty sure they had a fuel injection system. The distillate and kerosene burners were considered the dual fuel burning tractor's because these tractors ran on the cheaper fuels of the time, but it was manditory to pre-run the engine to operating temparature by burning gasoline. The tractor also had to be switched back over to gasoline before shut down so the tractor could be started after it cooled down. These tractors had a dual tank, slightly different jetted carb, a heat adjusting manifold, a slightly different head that changed compression a little, and radiator shutters to aid in tractor warm up. Since these tractors were designed to start on gas, they can be run on gas entirely and cause no harm. Distillate and kerosene were cheaper than gas in the early to mid 1900's but it is just the opposite today. Distillate fuel was kind of a blend of not totally refined fuel I think. It might not even be available any more. You probably know what kerosene is. It is still available but a little expensive.
