You can do it from the PTO, but have to remove the end cap on the axel housing and bush the axel out. you can do this by taken the cap screw out of the shaft and remove the large washer then put the cap screw back in the shaft put some think between that cap screw and the one in the other shaft and screw the cap screw back out as you screw it out it will push the axel out of the bull gear and the housing after you push the axel out you can move the bull gear over and back enough to get the bull pinion out the bull pinion housing has some part of it inside the bull gear to help hold the in side bearing and you don't want to brake it off. but can do it this way.
