Here's what I've done with my H,some worked and some didn't:
I installed IH oversized High compression pistons and sleeves. Did some very mild "pocket porting" of the valve bowls under the valves, this was just to smooth out the flow of the intake air and the exhaust gasses right below the valve seats. I'd recommend a 3 angle valve job if you're going to get the head done
I have the governor turned up as far as possible.
I'm going to turn it back down as the tractor will exceed the 4 mph mark very easily and that willjust get me disqualified in the pulls, so what's the use and it has to be harder on the engine anyway.
I still use the magneto, but if you have a battery ignition you could ad an electronic ignition, They really do help.
I got a 300 manifold and I'm going to get a 300/350 carb when I get my tax money back.
These items have made a substancial difference in my horse power, I haven't had a chance to get the H on a dyno yet but I'd sure like to just to see how it compares to what it put out befor.
My H seems to like a smaller muffler than the standard H muffler, it pulled the best with a Farmall A muffler on it, not as strong at high RPM but had all kinds of power when it was lugging, pulled the worst with a straight pipe on it, it had no lugging power.
This is just my experience with my H it might save you having to try some for yourself.
Now as to just how it pulls in it's class at our pulls here in AZ. It does a respectable job but is never the best in the 3500-4500 lb. class. My tractor went across the scale at 4470 Lbs. with my behind on it. It could do a bit better if I had some better tires on it. I do run 13.6x38 tires and it will spin out just as the front tires are fully off the ground.
