I just wanted to clearify to all that might be reading this, that the downfall of IH/Farmall possibly starting with the introduction of TA, in fact, does not mean that IH/Farmall did not make good and better tractors after that. This discussion here was started by Best Tractor of All Time and led to tractor evolution, the decline of tractor quality, and right on into IH/Farmall company downfall. So if you are reading this and absorbing the info here, please be aware that the conversation has become pretty much way off topic. It does not mean that a tractor produced after 1950 something does not fit into the best tractor cotagory because that would be untrue. I didn't want somebody getting the wrong impression out of this. The beginning of a string of tractor flaws is not the sole reason for the downfall of the IH/Farmall company and doesn't nescisarily mean that a tractor with a flaw is not a good tractor especially if in good mechanical condition. The TA perhaps was the beginning of the downfall, but when considering the entire downfall of the company you would haft to consider tractor sells, competition, management of company, engineering, marketing , quality of tractors, and so on. All of which could have been problems. Most problems probably acurred or were heightened right before the collapse. But some of the problems may have been long term such as release of options on tractors that wasn't ready to be released. The TA would be a good example of that. Did it make tractor better? Yes, when it worked. When it broke down was when the problem was. Was it ready to be released as an option on tractor? Could of been perfected more. Did the company make the right decision by releasing it? That would have to be answered by the consumer with a tractor out of warranty with a broke down TA. Just wanted to clear things up a bit.
