mgb if you have a 12 volt system it should be ground negative and it will have a voltage regulator. If this is the case and you connect the battery properly (ground neg) you are discharging your battery because the voltage regulator is not properly polarized. If you have a 6 volt system it should be ground positive and the same problem as above. The voltage regulator is not polarized and you are discharging instead of charging.
