FBH is the prefix for a H. It was manufactured in 1940. The suffix means gas only fuel. I enlisted in USMC in 1965 and never saw any ag equipment at Parris Island, Camp Lejeune, Vietnam, or Glenview Naval Air Station. Grounds maintenance was handled by civilians on govt payroll. It is now done by contractors with their own equipment. It is odd that the Marines would have tractors in 1940 because the pre-war Corps was not very large. Apart from Quantico, VA, and maybe Parris Island, it is hard to think of any USMC bases that existed at that time. Marines were usually posted as detachments at USN bases and air stations. I suppose the tractor could have been used as a tactical prime mover to haul small guns but it seems unlikely even in an age when the military adapted alot of civilian hardware to military use. Is there any olive drab paint on the tractor? I suppose it is possible that the tractor could have been used at the Navy Brig at Portsmouth, NH. The USMC ran the prison for the Navy and there may have been a prison farm.
